Task 4
Grimsby Institute College Magazine
L- I think this college magazine is very good to understand the writing used is clear and the uses of house-style colours have been followed through with the texted back colours and the image. I think the blue stands out with the white and it’s eye catching. The contents are easy to understand like it gives you an in site into what’s going to be in the magazine. The logo of the college stands out because it’s big you instantly know which college it belongs to.
I-I doesn’t inform you on who produced the magazine.
I-The magazine has old the target audience (students) what’s happening in and around the college. It has an article of drugs and alcohol this shows they are think this is important and there trying to keep their students safe this is a good way to appeal to new students as it shows they are thinking about their students as well as teaching them.
A-I think there target audience is the students of all ages and genders. I think the colour blue show the young trend y feel whereas the grey and white appeals to the older generation.
R-I think the college has a positive feel to it as it obviously cares for the students but has a general interest in the student activities and what’s happening on the courses.
East Riding College Magazine
L-I think this magazine is very plain and a bit here and there. The text only stands out because of the dull background and the white colour they’ve used for the text. The logo is small and doesn’t really stand out in the bottom right hand corner. The picture isn’t really relevant to the magazine been about the colour as it’s a picture of one of the trip this could have been added to the article in the magazine.
I-I doesn’t inform you on who produced the magazine.
I-The front cover doesn’t really indicate whether it’s for the students or the teacher. I think it gives you little information on who it could be for or what it is trying to achieve.
A-I don’t think the magazine shows who the audience is as it’s quiet boring and isn’t really aimed at students. The colours are a bit plan and don’t really appeal to the young population of the students who will attend that college.
R-I think the college has a strict negative look with this magazine as it isn’t very welcoming and doesn’t really give a positive feel with the dark colours used and the picture of just one thing rather than a few pictures of other interesting activates that have gone on around the college.
Mid Kent College
L-I think this magazine is very exciting and isn’t boring at all it has great colours and looks very eye catching and appeals to students because of the fun bubbly house style colours of pink, black and blue. I like the figures instead of pictures as it stands out with the white background. The content of the magazine that is on the front is for young students it gives advice and information on interesting none college related subjects.
I-It doesn’t say who produced the magazine. It does say mid-Kent on the barcode which could indicate that it is an in house product.
I-The content of the magazine seems to be very much around having fun but staying safe as well. I think this could mean they understand that students need fun but give them advice on how to stay safe.
A-I definitely think this magazine is for the younger students rather than the older ones. The eye catching colours on the cover could appeal to the artistic students rather than the academic ones. This magazine doesn’t indicate it’s for teacher but they may buy it to keep up with what’s going on.
R-This college magazine has a positive image. It isn’t boring and plain it’s bright and vibrant without been to in your face. It doesn’t come across as strict it appeals to the younger students as well as it has a young edgy feel to it.

Task 2
Analysis of the brief
Language-
From the brief we are told we need a masthead that should have appropriate text and a photograph of a student medium close-up. We are told this is for a college magazine so we have to include a barcode, price, issue number a bright colour scheme (3 house-style colours), picture, teasing content and prize to be won.
Institution-
I am producing a magazine for Wyke. They will be no publishing company as its produced by me (a student) for Wyke.
Ideology-
My magazine is to inform students who attend Wyke of all the possibilities available to them. I would like to let them know about the fresher’s parties and the other things they could do to make their college lives more enjoyable. I would also like to suggest ways they could make their studying or homework times more enjoyable. I hope by creating a fun bubbly magazine that it will appear to the students.
Audience-
My target audience is aimed at students who go to Wyke and for teachers who are interested in what’s going on in student life. My magazine is aimed at 1st and 2nd years for boys and girls.
Representation-
I want my magazine to show individuality for all students. I hope this will give a positive image for the college as I think Wyke is all about an individual’s needs rather than everyone is the same and learns the same. I want this to come across in my pictures and they content in my magazine.

Task 6
My magazine will be available for students free of charge as I understand that students have money issues and other things for college to buy. I have decided to let the teacher have a choice to get the magazine but they will have to pay a small fee of twenty pence. My reason for deciding this is so that the teachers can stay in the loop and they know what the students are up to and what weekends they may potentially be having a social life.
My magazine will be published at the end of each term in tutor to all students who would like one. It will have running themes to it so depending on what season it is will depend on what it contains such as Christmas it will have articles on where to go for the best party dress or shirt. This will continue through-out every issue to keep the idea of the student comes first.
Task 3
The college I have chosen to use is Wyke. I have decided to use this because I attend Wyke and I should be able to use the events circulating now and add them to the content of my magazine. I have also decided to use Wyke because I can take pictures around Wyke. I am also using one of my friends as the face on the front cover so it will be easy to take one during a lunch hour and this will mean I have more time to use Photoshop in my lessons.
